Winter Solstice

Annual Winter Solstice Celebration

Sunday December 21, 2025.
Doors at 4pm

The Winter Solstice, now as in ancient times, marks the longest night of the year, when the sun is at its lowest elevation in the sky. It is a season of acknowledging the dark time of the year, a time to mark the turning point with the reassurance that the days will lengthen once more. The return of the sun from its most southern position in the horizon as always been of great ceremonial significance, while also serving as a celestial clock.

Monuments such as Newgrange can be found across Ireland aligned with significant seasonal between times like Solstice. It is a time for gathering together to celebrate as a community, to remember our friends and family who are no longer with us, and to mark the continuing passage of time.  We share light as one community to give hope to each other in times of darkness, in respect and gratitude of our similarities and our differences.

The McClelland Library will be open from 4-5 PM to walk through before it closes for the rest of the year.

Bar with alcohol and hot drinks will be available for purchase.
