FREE FAMILY DAY: May 4, 2019
Join us for our first ever FREE Family Day on Saturday, May 4th! Bring your family for free tours of the Irish Cultural Center & McClelland Library, free entry to the Irish in Latin America exhibit, free Family Story Hour, and a free showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. -10:30 am: Family Story Hour
Family Story Hour program introduces parents and children to Irish authors, stories and traditions in a fun and interactive fashion. Family Story Hour takes place inside the Castle Keep located on the third floor of the library. Join us in May for “The Crayons’ Book of Colors” by Oliver Jeffers and Drew Daywalt and “Fin M’Coul: The Giant of Knockmany Hill” by Tomie De Paola.
-1pm: Family Film: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”
The Irish Cultural Center and McClelland Library are proud to host a FREE Irish Family Film Series throughout our 2018/2019 season.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is an unexpected celebration of modern cinema in Ireland. While the film takes place in a galaxy far far away, some of the filming was done in Ireland! Join us in wishing “May the 4th be with you,” as we celebrate the film industry in Ireland (and International Star Wars Day!) with the whole family. The film will be shown in our Great Hall at 1PM and costumes are encouraged!
-ALL DAY: Free tours of the Irish Cultural Center & McClelland Library for families (final tour begins at 2:30pm)
-ALL DAY: Free admission to the “Irish in Latin America” Exhibit in the McClelland Library
Family Film Series
We are proud to host an Irish Family Film Series throughout our 2018/2019 season. The first film will be shown in the afternoon of Saturday, November 3rd in the Center’s Great Hall. The second film will be shown in the afternoon of of January 12th, 2019. The third film will be shown of the afternoon of May 4th, 2019. Due to the generosity and support of Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affair and Trade, the three film showings will be offered to the public at the Irish Cultural Center with no charge for admission. The three movies being shown are: “Brave,” “Into the West,” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Family Story Hour
The first Saturday of the month is Family Story Hour at the McClelland Library! Family Story Hour runs from 10:30AM-12PM and is filled with stories, discussions, and crafts. Our Family Story Hour program introduces parents and children to Irish authors, stories and traditions in a fun and interactive fashion. Family Story Hour’s new permanent home is inside the Library’s Castle Keep located on the third floor of the library.
Did you know a family membership to the Irish Cultural Center and McClelland Library includes parents and all minor children? Family memberships give everyone in the family discounts to events and a library card at the McClelland Library.
The McClelland Library has children and teen book collections in English and Irish! Come check out a book and read!
