Classes

Music

Music classes are designed to teach students basic technique, beginning theory, correct playing posture, good tone production, fingering, how to play well with others, and confidence in playing. The study of traditional tunes will include music from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and North America. Music will be taught aurally as well as through written music. There are beginning, intermediate, and advanced courses available, as well as private lessons. Some of the instruments can be purchased at the ICC Gift Shop.

Ceili Dance Workshops

The 2nd Saturday of most months, we offer a Ceili dance workshop. This is a 2 hour dance-intensive workshop, geared towards both beginning and advanced dancers age 16 and over. Beginners will focus on basic footwork and simpler ceili dances (Fairy Reel, Siege of Ennis, etc). Advanced dancers will learn more difficult figure dances (Cross Reel, Trip to the Cottage, etc). If you are an experienced Ceili go-er or if you have never danced before, this is the class for you! Make new friends and learn how to dazzle the spectators at the next ICC Ceili. Admission is $16.00.

Language

Academy language courses will introduce students to conversational Irish, Scottish and Welsh native language. Students will learn basic phrases and greetings. No previous experience with the languages is necessary. Continuing education is available for the intermediate speaker. Most materials will be provided. Irish language does require a textbook, available through the gift shop.

Term Schedule, Tuition and Policies

The academy classes are approximately one hour in length and meet once a week for 8 sessions. There are 4 terms per year, arranged around holidays. Students enroll on a term basis. If a class session is cancelled by the instructor, a make-up class will be scheduled. Class sizes are limited and are subject to cancellation in the event of low enrollment.

Private lessons are approximately a half hour in length and are available on a limited basis. The cost for private lessons is $20.00 per class. Children’s classes (7-12 years) are available in the music and step dance area only. Registration begins three weeks prior to the term and and students can sign up at any time during the term. There will be no refunds once a term has begun.
