FRIENDS OF ST. PATRICK MEET THIS MONDAY, MARCH 24TH AT 7:00 PM

The Arizona Chapter of the Friends of St. Patrick will meet again on Monday, December 17th at 7:00 pm.  If you have an interest in joining us, please contact Glenda Walker at 602-277-1376.  Anyone interested in being part of this great organization is invited to come to the ICC that night.  For further information on the St. Patrick Centre, please go to www.saintpatrickcentre.com.  The meeting will be held at the Irish Cultural Center, 1106 N. Central, Phoenix  at 7:00 PM.  Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
Saint Patrick Centre is the only permanent  exhibit in the world dedicated to telling the story of Ireland's Patron Saint and the reconciliation work going on there.   Friends of Saint Patrick, Arizona Chapter, is a non-profit organization  that was started for the purpose of nurturing Saint Patrick's legacy.  This will be accomplished  by promoting positive  relationships between Arizona and Northern Ireland through education and cultural exchanges.

This Year's Theme is “Arizona Irish: Honor Our Heroes”
31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Irish Faire Saturday, March 15, 2014. Location for the Parade 3rd Street from Sheridan south to McDowell.  Starts at 10 am.  The Faire starts at 10 am at Hance Park West side of Central at the Irish Cultural Center. Admission $10.00 Adults 13 & older.  Kids 12 & under FREE. Senior (55 & over) and Military $8.00.  3 Stages of Irish Music and Dancers, Kids Area, Food and Beverages, Crafters and the Anam Cara (Soul Friend) exhibition at the McClelland Library.  Free Shuttle from 1850 North Central Avenue (West side of Central Ave & Palm Lane) to the Faire. TAKE THE LIGHT RAIL TO THE ROOSEVELT STREET STATION.  Free parking at the garage at 1850 North Central Ave.
The Phoenix St. Patrick's Day Parade began in 1984. It's purpose is to preserve and enhance the heritage and traditions of the Irish Culture as well as share that culture with the citizens of Arizona. The Parade has marching bands, Irish step dancers, bagpipers, police and fire vehicles, government dignitaries, floats, the 2014 Arizona Irish Colleen / Arizona Rose with her Court and a whole lot more.
This year's Grand Marshal is Ron Hoon, Fox 10 TV morning anchorman, whose ancestors hailed from County Donegal.  The Irish Persons of the Year are Emerald Firefighter John McMorrow, whose parents hailed from Counties Leitrim and Clare and Emerald Policeman, Matt Shay, who's ancesters hailed from County Kerry.   For further information call (602) 280-9221 or visit www.phxirish.org

At the Phoenix St. Patrick’s Day Faire 2014, The Friends of Saint Patrick, Arizona Chapter, is honoring Saint Patrick’s legacy for compassion by sponsoring a food drive for Arizona’s needy. If you are attending the Faire, there will be collection sites at the Faire entrances.  In exchange for your food donation at the Faire, you will receive a raffle ticket for the drawings that will be held hourly during the Faire.  Raffle tickets will only be given out at the Faire entrance.  Each raffle winner will receive $100.  Donated items will be delivered to St.Vincent de Paul.  The Friends of Saint Patrick Arizona Chapter is a non-denominational 501 (c) (3) non-profit established to honor Saint Patrick’s legacy.  The Saint Patrick Centre in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, is the only center in the world dedicated to Saint Patrick.  Website: http://www.saintpatrickcentre.com

CHANDLER TULLAMORE ART & AUTHOR SHOWCASE & RECEPTION, MARCH 21ST

Chandler-Tullamore Sister Cities present 2014 Art & Author Showcase and Reception.  The Reception will be held on Friday, March 21, 5:30pm-7:00pm, at the Vision Gallery, 10 East Chicago Street, in Historic Downtown Chandler.  The 2014 theme is "Connect Globally.  Thrive Locally."  Please join us in honoring our students who submitted poetry, essays and artworks for our 2014 Art and Author Showcase, in conjunction with Sister Cities International! One winning poem, essay and artwork from Chandler will be submitted to the International Competition for a chance to win the overall competition and be featured at the Sister Cities International 2014 Annual Conference in San Jose, CA July 2014. Our Reception will celebrate our Chandler youth with a showing of the works and refreshments. Friday is also Chandler’s monthly Art Walk in Downtown Chandler - combine the two and have an enjoyable evening! FRIENDS OF ST. PATRICK AZ CHAPTER NAME 2014 YOUNG AMBASSADOR

Audrey Sullivan has been named the 2014 Young Ambassador by the Friends of Saint Patrick- Arizona
Chapter.  The 23 year old will graduate from the University of Northern Colorado in May with a major in Theater Education and a minor in Dance. She will spend the first 2 weeks in June doing an internship at the St. Patrick Centre in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland.
Audrey said she would love to intern at a theater or dance company where she can learn about their educational outreach. She wants to be a high school dance or theater teacher to advocate for the Arts because she thinks they teach children many important lessons like how to listen and empathize with others.

Grab your prettiest or funniest hat and come to the Irish Cultural Center, 1106 N. Central, Phoenix, to wish Audrey Bon Voyage.  The Desert/Tea will be held on Sunday, May 18th from 1 to 5 PM.  Admission is $15. There will be musical entertainment,  a silent raffle for baskets full of goodies as well as a 50/50 raffle.

IRISH CULTURAL CENTER DOCENTS NEEDED

The Irish Cultural Center needs enthusiastic volunteers willing to share their knowledge of all things Irish with our visitors.  No previous Docent experience is required.  We will provide all the training that is necessary. 
Requirements:  Docents are needed for one 5-hour shift per week from 10 a.m.to 3:00 p.m. The Center is open Tuesday thru Saturday.
Duties:  Leading tours, providing information regarding the Irish Cultural Center, and answering phones.

1ST ANNUAL CALEDONIAN SOCIETY OF AZ BONSPIEL JUNE 9TH

The Caledonian Society of Arizona is proud to present another fun Scottish themed event on June 9th, Monday 6pm-9pm.
This time we're holding a "Learn to Curl" evening and hosting a friendly Curling competition, the "1st Annual Caledonian Society of AZ Bonspiel".
This event takes the place of our regularly scheduled June 12 meeting at the ICC.  There will be no meeting on June 12 at the ICC.
Players are invited to enter the competition. There will be five teams of four players. All those interested in joining a team or presenting a full team - please contact John Clinkenbeard at  johnclinkenbeard@gmail.com.  
For those of you just wishing to participate as spectators there is plenty of room (and a bar) where you can root for your team and learn about a fascinating Scottish sport.  Join us!

This Galician bagpiper pushes her gaita to the limit to achieve a vibrant style.
Internationally acclaimed as a Gaita master and classical pianist, Cristina Pato enjoys an active professional career devoted to both Galician popular and classical music.  In 1998 Cristina Pato became the first female Gaita player releasing a solo album and since then she has collaborated with world music, jazz, classical and experimental artists (including the Chicago Symphony, Yo-Yo Ma, The Chieftains, Arturo O’Farril, World Symphony Orchestra and Paquito D'Rivera). Her unique and powerful style, full of passion and energy, has been acclaimed by The New York Times as “a virtuosic burst of energy” and by the BBC as “the Galician bagpipe diva.” Pato fuses the influences of Latin music, jazz, pop and contemporary music, and uses her artistry and unprecedented virtuosic skill to bring her musical vision to life. Pato is a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble.
